ALDI'S CHRISTMAS SECRET
It’s not every day we turn traditional Christmas fare into a unique ice cream flavour and it’s certainly not every day we win a competition to be the next big thing in a leading supermarket. But that’s exactly what Yorvale did this year, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Our phenomenal Pigs in Blankets ice cream is available now in Aldi after we won their Aldi’s Christmas Secrets Competition earlier this year. This unusual flavour combo really tempted the tastebuds of Aldi’s top management, and you can get your hands on a tub of your own this festive season.
HOW IT BEGAN...
Aldi’s Next Big Thing is a popular Channel 4 show where British producers compete to gain a listing in the supermarket. Filmed over several weeks, the show, now in its second series, follows suppliers behind the scenes from concept and taste testing through to ultimate creation and production.
Companies pitch their products to Aldi’s managing director Julie Ashfield and compete for a space on Aldi’s shelves. Not only does it give artisan producers the chance to launch nationally, but it also helps build brand awareness and ultimately supports UK small businesses.
HOW WE BECAME AN ALDI'S CHRISTMAS SECRET COMPETITION WINNER
At Yorvale we love a challenge, and we like to do things a little differently. We are most definitely not your average ice cream maker. So, when we were approached by Channel 4 to take part in their show we didn’t hesitate.
We were asked to come up with an ice cream flavour which would be suitable for Christmas. Our team attacked the brief with gusto, producing several concepts which we put to the filmmakers and Aldi.
They created Pigs in Blankets, Blue Cheese and Port-Soaked Cranberry and Kevin The Christmas Spiced Carrot Cake ice creams. We settled on two to present to Aldi - Pigs in Blankets and Blue Cheese and Cranberry.
THE WINNING FLAVOUR
The taste test was a tense time for us - would they love it or hate it? While the Pigs in Blankets was an instant hit, the Blue Cheese and Cranberry was more polarising.
A few days later though we got the call we’d been hoping for - Aldi loved the Pigs in Blankets ice cream and asked if we could manufacture 25,000 to hit the shelves in December.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW
Our amazing team designed the packaging, organised production and prepared the order within the tight deadlines. Our limited-edition Pigs in Blankets ice creams will be available in-store from 19th December 2023 for a limited time only. Aldi expects it to sell out within a week, so if you want to get your hands on some, you’d better hurry because once it’s gone, it’s gone!
